Periodic notes from our practice — on capital allocation, finance operations, transactions, and the questions owners ask us most.
Recent Notes
- Notes on Exit Preparation: Three Years OutA short guide to what changes when an owner decides — even quietly — that the next 24 to 36 months will end with a transaction.
- The 13-Week Cash Forecast: A Practical Field NoteWhy nearly every owner-operated business we engage with eventually ends up with a 13-week cash forecast — and what makes one actually useful.
- Owner Economics: A Different ScorecardWhy the metrics we report to owners look different from the metrics a board of directors would ask for — and why the difference matters.
What we publish
We write infrequently and only when we believe we have something useful to add. When we do publish, it is generally in three formats:
Field Notes
Short observations from inside live engagements — anonymized, but specific enough to be useful.
Practical Guides
Step-by-step explanations of the work we do — what a 13-week cash forecast actually looks like, how a quality-of-earnings review is built, and so on.
Market Commentary
Occasional notes on the rate environment, lending markets, and M&A conditions as they affect privately held businesses.
A note on selectivity
This is not a content marketing channel. We do not publish on a schedule and we do not chase keywords. If you would like to be notified when we do publish something new, send us an email and we will add you to a small mailing list reserved for that purpose.
